Assumes a rectangular room, the rug roughly centred, and a border of at least 10 inches of bare floor on open sides. Measure the clear floor at floor level, and to the furthest point an inward opening door reaches.
Machine washable is a claim about the fabric
Whether it fits your machine is a different question. These rugs run from one and a half pounds to twenty seven, and a domestic drum has a limit. Two of the fifteen footprints here do not fit one.
Uses the appliance rule of three pounds per cubic foot for a large load, against the shipping weights published on the listings. A rug packs denser than clothes, so a size marked tight really is tight.

The distances that decide it
Beside a bed
How far the rug should reach out from the sides you step onto. Below eighteen inches your feet land on bare floor.
Past a dining table
Far enough that a chair pulled back to sitting position still has all four legs on the rug.
Border to the wall
Bare floor around the rug on open sides. Less reads as failed carpet, more reads as marooned.
Under a sofa
The workhorse living room arrangement: front legs of every seat on the rug, back legs on the floor.
Runner in a hall
Floor left at each side. A runner wedged against both skirtings buckles as soon as it is walked on.
Under a door
The pile height on most lines here, which clears the gap under a standard interior door. Thicker rugs do not.
Three layers and a printer
A polyester face, a cotton and felt middle, a textured thermoplastic rubber back, and a design printed onto a machine woven base rather than woven from dyed yarn. That construction explains the price, the range of designs, and the one thing it gives up.

Takes colour and holds it. The fade resistance is a property of the fibre, not a coating.
Middle: cotton and felt
The body of the rug. Enough weight to lie flat, and where most of the water goes in a wash.
Back: thermoplastic rubber
Grips hard floors. Thermoplastic means heat softens it. That is what the drying instruction is protecting.
The trade is wear. In a woven rug the pattern goes through the yarn; in a printed one it sits on the surface, so a walking line goes pale before it goes bald. Which argues for putting these in a bedroom or a living room rather than the first six feet inside a front door.
Cold, gentle, no bleach, no heat
That is the whole wash instruction, and the last two words are the ones that matter. The backing is a thermoplastic rubber: heat is what turns a grippy back into a tacky or cracked one.

Are these rugs really machine washable?
The fabric is, in cold water on a gentle cycle. Whether your machine will take a given size is a separate question that depends on the weight of the rug against the capacity of your drum. Everything up to five by seven is a normal domestic load. Six by nine needs a large machine. Nine by twelve does not fit a domestic washer at all. The washer fit table works this out size by size.
Do I still need a rug pad?
On sealed wood, tile, laminate or concrete, the rubber backing grips well enough on its own. On top of carpet nothing grips and you need a proper rug to carpet gripper. On vinyl flooring, use a felt pad, because rubber backings can leave a permanent yellow stain in vinyl and flooring manufacturers ask for non rubberised, non staining mats.
How thick are they?
Most lines are quoted at 0.35 inches of pile and a few at 0.25. That clears the gap under most interior doors, which is the main reason to buy a rug this thin. It also means the rug is soft rather than plush, and it will not insulate a cold floor the way a thick rug does.

Will the pattern wear off?
Over years, in a walking line, a printed rug goes pale before it goes bald, because the pattern is on the surface rather than through the yarn. That is the trade at this price. It argues for putting a printed rug in a bedroom or living room rather than in the first six feet inside a front door.
Can I put it in the dryer?
Only on an air cycle with no heat. The backing is a thermoplastic rubber and heat softens it; a hot cycle is what turns a grippy backing into a tacky or cracked one. Line drying flat is better.
